In the rapidly gentrifying neighborhood of Hayes Valley lies a Restaurant Gastronomique called Bar Jules. If you can read from the menu, written in heavy cursive and printed on the chalkboard walls (there is no paper menu available) then you are in for a tasty meal with a spin off of comfort food. The ingredients are all sourced from small, local farms, which contributes intense flavor to the food they serve. I shared a chickpea soup with harissa and a king salmon sandwich with heirloom tomato and tarragon mayo. The sandwich had an over-generous amount of mayo and butter which distracted from the contents between the bread. On the contrary, the soup was simply, heart-warming and inspired me to make it at home.
